In August 1984
I got a request to pick up some oil drilling supplies in Calgary, Alberta,
Canada at one location and two boxes of food at another and take them to
an oil drilling campsite. I picked up what was required and headed
out to Nordegg, which is located in West Central Alberta, Canada,
on a nice warm sunny day.
Later that night
as I was traveling through the bush on a gravel road I happened to drive
too close to the edge and got stuck.
I
thought I was about five miles from the camp and I didn't have a phone
to call for help, so I waited in the truck until help arrived.
Nobody came, so I laid down on the trailer to sleep in the warm fresh air.
Shortly after, I woke up and decided to sleep in the truck, as it was more
comfortable. When morning came I got up and was walking around for a while
when I noticed Black Bear tracks around the trailer.
I then noticed that one box of food was gone and the other ripped open.
The bears had attacked my food! I'm glad that I
didn't sleep on the trailer for too long.
Calgary to Nordegg is 286 miles (460 km)
